Amnesty for Kalenjin Warriors

Many moons ago, William Samoei Ruto was seen and heard saying that he did not have anything to do with the blood-thirsty killing and expulsion spree carried out in spectacular fashion in his constituency, and that infact he was all for peace and quiet. We heard vociferous defence of this LION of Rift Valley, so much so that people were willing to die for him, and posted random pictures on Mashada to comment on his beauty/ handsomeness. According to latest reports, he’s asking for the release of those incarcerated for participating in the violence because some of them might be innocent and anyway, inorder to get anything done, we have first to forgive and forget. What sort of crazy logic does this man use? Forgive and forget? Can we get back the lives you took? the livelihoods you destroyed? The trust you broke? If that can all be reset, then sure, we’ll forgive and forget. As for me, I will neither forgive nor forget.
It pains me to see how Kalenjins have decided as a community that they are above the law, answerable to no one and accountable to no one but themselves. It hurts even more to see the leaders of this ethnically based killing in the government, supposedly leading Kenya to a new beginning. Kikuyus are now being referred to by the derisive ‘lesothoans’, referencing the clarion cry by Balala to isolate people like in Lesotho.  Before you know it, kalenjins will have declared the nation state of Kalenjin.
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry  when a friend, a Kalenjin, complained that he was being discriminated against. By whom, you may ask? By Tugens, who hate Kipsigis with a passion.  The point being that even if all the ‘madoadoa’ were to leave the north Rift Valley, there would still be internal strife.  There’s no love lost among somalis, who have more in common with each other than they do differences (language, religion, history, geography). Next time we go to elections, Kenyans will not forget what happened this year.  At least I hope they do not.
